Merida to Cancun to Home

It's breakfast at 7:00 and ready to board at 8:45. Richard takes his responsibilities very seriously. He has a list of all his charges and we each have to show our passport before we can board the bus! He's missing one, though! It's Ginger, of course. Juan had ducked out for a moment to print some forms that Ginger and the hospital have to fill out and send to the insurance company; but he's back in plenty of time to give each of us a hug and kiss. He sees us safely on the van, waves good-bye, and heads to the hospital to be with Ginger.
Richard checks throughout the trip to see who needs a restroom break. As we near the airport we each tell Samuel what terminal we need. It takes a little research to find Ellie's terminal but we do, just as Juan texts with the information!!
We begin parting ways as we find our check-in counters and drop our luggage. Then it's off to security and to find our gates. The Atlanta crew has plenty of time for lunch and a bit of last-minute souvenir hunting. Jan and I find the Atlanta Bread Company and she finds a way to keep your second glass of wine when we leave!
| The staff is all still dressed for the holiday. |
They've changed our gate but we've got lots of time to get there and we all make it. Eventually it is time to board and we're that much closer to home. The flight is uneventful, the best kind! In Atlanta we all get to passport control where the locals go one way and Jan and I go another. Time for the final good-byes; but we'll almost certainly see each other again. When Ginger is feeling up to it I'm sure there will be a party and we just might fly up for it!!
I go to the GOES machine and Jan goes the regular route and she actually winds up at the luggage carousel before me!! And she's already caught my bag! Soon enough hers shows up and we go to the drop-off point and continue on to our gate. There's a four-hour layover so we have time to download the Lyft app and get the discount that Betsy sent us.
Finally we can board our very last plane and settle in. It's only about an hour and a half to Tampa and we deplane, gather our bags, and figure out where to find the Lyft pickup point. The signage is wonderful until we get to the escalator. Jan doesn't want to take her big suitcase down it so we find the elevator that we came up on and go back down. It's all very strange but apparently you can't get here from here!
| This beautiful piece is in the new part of the airport by the Lyft/Uber pick-up point. |
But it's the right place and I call my first Lyft. He's only three minutes away and it all goes perfectly! He takes us to Betsy and Roddy's house and my car is still there! We pile everything in and drive on the deserted roads to home. I make sure Jan gets in her door safely and I text her when I get home so we both are at ease. After dealing with the cats and such I'm in bed by 2:30 a.m. My new handyman, whose name I got from Jan, will be here in the morning!! I hope he's not too early!!
